Out of an abundance of caution for our attendees, presenters, and event organizers, IMSE’s 2020 Literacy Summit has been canceled due to concerns over COVID-19. We are incredibly grateful to the presenters who invested their time and talent to prepare for this event and the people who registered for this event.

Full refunds for the 2020 Literacy Summit will be issued via Eventbrite to all individuals who have completed their registration and payment. This process will be finalized within the next two weeks.

Keynote Speakers

We are excited to have Dr. Marcia Henry and Lavinia Mancuso as our 2020 keynote speakers!

Dr. Henry has worked in the field of reading for almost 60 years as a teacher, tutor, diagnostician, author, and president of the International Dyslexia Association. Her book, “Unlocking Literacy: Effective Decoding and Spelling Instruction,” has helped many teachers develop explicit and systematic approaches to teaching literacy.

Mancuso spent 35 years working as a teacher and principal in New York City. She now serves as an administrative director at Everyone Reading, as well as the director of education and community relations at Read Alliance.

You don’t want to miss this opportunity to connect with peers and experts. You’ll be able to bring back new ideas and innovative solutions that you can add to your classroom to promote and improve literacy.

Panel Moderator

The 2020 Literacy Summit will also feature a full panel discussion centered around the science of reading and Structured Literacy. The panel will be led by Paul Liabenow and will feature teachers, literacy specialists, interventionists, and more!

Liabenow has dedicated his career to educating Michigan’s young people. With degrees from Michigan State University and Central Michigan University, Liabenow joined Cadillac Area Public Schools where he worked his way through the ranks of teacher, building leader, principal and district superintendent. Today, he serves as the Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Elementary and Middle School Principals—working to build a community of educators dedicated to advocating, leading, and learning.

Continuing Education Units

By attending the Summit, you will be eligible for 6 SCECHs (State Continuing Education Credit Hours) from the Michigan Department of Education.

In order to receive credit for your hours, you must register with IMSE before the program ends and pay a $20 processing fee.
